Chomp

Questions about Chomp

Chomp is one iPhone app for your workouts, runs, calories and macros, recipes and meal plans, with your friends along too. Here's what people ask.

One app for training and food

What is the best all-in-one exercise and meal tracker app?

Chomp is an iPhone app built to be the one place for both: it logs your gym sessions with progressive overload, records runs, walks and rides, tracks calories and macros, saves recipes and plans your week of meals, all in one app with one subscription.

Most people juggle a gym log, a calorie counter and a recipe or meal-planning app. Chomp puts them together, so your training and your eating sit side by side on one screen, and the calories you burn in a session feed straight into the day's numbers.

Is there an app that tracks workouts and calories together?

Yes. Chomp tracks your workouts and your calories in the same app. Log a gym session or a run and the energy it burned is added to your day, so the calorie status you see after dinner already accounts for the training you did that morning.

It also sets your calorie and protein targets from your body and your goal (lose fat, build muscle or maintain), and shows whether each day landed in a deficit, at maintenance or in a surplus.

What app combines a gym log, a calorie counter and a meal planner?

Chomp combines all three. The gym log records every set and tells you what to lift next, the calorie counter logs meals by barcode, nutrition label, food search or recipe, and the meal planner lays out your week and builds the shopping list.

Because it's one app, a recipe you plan for Tuesday shows in Tuesday's calories, and Home shows your week of training and eating side by side.

Is there one app for weightlifting, running and nutrition?

Chomp covers all three. It logs lifting with sets, reps and weights, records runs, walks and rides with GPS on your iPhone or Apple Watch, and tracks what you eat against calorie and macro targets.

Progress shows them together too: strength trends and personal bests, running pace and distance, body weight, and how your eating tracked against your targets.

Workouts

Which app tells me how much weight to lift next?

Chomp works out progressive overload for every exercise. After each session it looks at what you lifted and suggests your next target, for example adding 2.5 kg to the bench press once you've hit all your reps, so you always know what to aim for when you walk into the gym.

It also shows what you lifted last time and your best for that exercise, and works out which plates to put on the bar.

What's a good gym workout tracker for iPhone and Apple Watch?

Chomp is a workout tracker for iPhone with an Apple Watch app. On the Watch you can start your session, log sets, run the rest timer and finish, while the phone stays in your bag. Runs, walks and rides record on the Watch with GPS too.

On the iPhone, the rest timer keeps counting with the phone locked and shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.

Is there a workout app that works offline in the gym?

Chomp keeps working when the gym has no signal. You can start a session and log every set offline; Chomp keeps them on your phone and sends them the moment you're back online, dated to the day you trained.

Cardio you enter by hand, and a timed cardio session you start and finish, are saved the same way.

Can I track planks and other timed exercises in a workout app?

Yes. Chomp tracks timed holds like planks, wall sits, dead hangs and farmer's carries with a built-in hold timer, and records the time instead of reps. Add weight if you're holding some, like a plate on a plank.

It also handles warm-up sets, drop sets, supersets, one side at a time, bodyweight and assisted exercises.

Recipes and meals

What app tracks recipes and can upload photos?

Chomp saves your recipes and can read them from a photo. Snap a page of a cookbook and Chomp turns it into a recipe with the ingredients, the method and the macros worked out (reading recipes from photos is part of Chomp Pro). You can also add your own photo to any recipe.

Every recipe you save counts towards your calories when you eat it, and can go straight into your meal plan and shopping list.

Which app can import a recipe from a website and work out the macros?

Chomp imports a recipe from a website link and works out its calories, protein, carbs and fat from Australian food data. Paste the link and the title, ingredients and method come in, with a credit back to the site.

You can change the servings or cook a bigger batch, and the quantities and macros scale with it.

What meal planning app makes a shopping list sorted by aisle?

Chomp plans your week of meals and turns it into one shopping list, sorted by supermarket aisle, with a recipe you've planned more than once (or cooked as a bigger batch) added up. You can send the list to Apple Reminders to tick off as you shop.

The planner shows each day's calories, so you can see before you shop how the week adds up against your targets.

What's a good calorie counter app with Australian foods?

Chomp's food search uses Australia's official food composition data (AUSNUT, from Food Standards Australia New Zealand), so everyday Australian foods come up with Australian nutrition values and portions. Energy shows in calories or kilojoules, your choice.

For packaged food, scan the barcode or point the camera at the nutrition panel.

Which app can scan a barcode or a nutrition label to log food?

Chomp does both. Scan a product's barcode to log it, or point the camera at the nutrition information panel and Chomp reads the numbers, including kilojoules, per serve and per 100 g. Reading the label happens on your phone; the photo isn't uploaded.

You can also describe a meal in your own words and Chomp estimates it.

Is there a recipe app with a step-by-step cooking mode and timers?

Chomp has a cook mode that walks you through a recipe one step at a time, keeps your screen on, and runs several timers at once. Timers it spots in a step ("simmer for 20 minutes") start with a tap and show on your Lock Screen.

You can keep notes on any recipe and see when you last cooked it.

Friends

Is there a fitness app where I can share workouts and recipes with friends?

Chomp lets you add friends, see each other's workouts and runs, send a shout-out, and share recipes and workout routines that land straight in your friend's app.

Friends are mutual: people only see your activity once you've both said yes, and you can block or report anyone.

Is there a fitness app without leaderboards or streaks?

Chomp has no leaderboards and no streaks. Friends can cheer each other on, but nobody is ranked, and missing a day never resets anything or sends you a guilt trip.

Your progress shows what you've done, over weeks and months, not a count of days in a row.
